The public is assured of an open, honest, and transparent series of nationwide consultations on the proposed Anti-Political Dynasty Act, according to a report by RH 12 Milky Rigonan on Thursday.
The first regional public hearing was held in Carmona City, drawing more than 1,500 participants from the youth sector, barangay officials, and non-government organizations who shared their views on the proposed measure.
Zia Alonto Adiong, chair of the House Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reform, said the process reflects the principle that sovereignty resides in the people, stressing that public input is essential before finalizing the bill.
In a message, House Speaker Faustino Dy III emphasized that it is the responsibility of House of Representatives to listen to diverse perspectives, experiences, and insights from Filipinos across different regions.
Key issues discussed during the consultation included the extent of family relationships to be covered by the bill and which government positions should be subject to restrictions. Dy said these discussions aim to ensure that the proposed law is fair – curbing the concentration of power among established political clans while opening opportunities for others to serve in public office.
At present, 24 anti-political dynasty bills have been filed in the House of Representatives, all seeking to limit the influence of political families in government positions.
