The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said the driver of the vehicle that struck a 23-year-old student who fell from an LRT-1 station at the intersection of EDSA and Congressional Avenue has been released from police custody.
In a statement, the QCPD said the driver was freed Thursday afternoon after the victim's father executed a notarized letter stating that the family would no longer file charges.
Police said their investigation, including a review of CCTV footage, found no clear indication of negligence on the part of the driver. Authorities added that the driver fully cooperated during his detention by submitting required documents and complying with legal procedures.
"The QCPD extends its sincere condolences to the bereaved family and assures the public of its commitment to conduct a fair, impartial, and transparent investigation," the police said.
The incident occurred Wednesday when the student fell from the LRT-1 station onto the roadway. A passing vehicle was unable to stop immediately, resulting in the victim being struck. The student was declared dead due to injuries sustained from the fall and impact.
