As we step into a new year, it's the perfect time to reflect on ourselves and set meaningful resolutions. Check these five areas, the "5 M's," to see where you can improve and make 2026 your best year yet.
1. Mind
Our mind can be our toughest enemy. When our thoughts are always chaotic, our perception of others suffers and we fail to see the good around us. Take a moment to reflect, because what you think is reality may just be in your mind. Include in your resolutions a review of your thoughts and consider disciplining your mind to regain clarity and peace.
2. Mood
Mood is our emotional state or feeling. Science shows that chemicals in our body, including hormonal changes, affect how we feel. But while hormones influence our emotions, we still have the free will to choose how we respond. If you find yourself often negative, make a conscious choice to turn your mood around and keep it positive.
3. Manner
Nobody is perfect and everyone has bad habits. Our personalities differ, so what works for one person may not work for another. If something needs improvement, congratulations, because you are already halfway there. Change begins when you admit and accept what needs fixing.
4. Money
How is your relationship with money? Some people are called "angry with money" because they spend recklessly, have no savings, and are always in debt. That is not a healthy relationship. Assess your financial habits this year. You can either continue as you are or make changes to improve your financial health.
5. Mouth
Our words reflect what is in our hearts. Words can build dreams or destroy them, heal a broken heart or create conflict. Pay attention to the words you speak. Are they uplifting and positive? Make it a resolution to speak with intention and kindness this year.
Focusing on the 5 M's, Mind, Mood, Manner, Money, and Mouth, can help you start the year with intention and clarity. By reflecting on your thoughts, managing your emotions, improving your behavior, taking control of your finances, and speaking with purpose, you can create a more balanced, positive, and fulfilling 2026.
