PLDT vows support for Text Bato that allows direct connection to PNP chief

MANILA – Telecommunications provider PLDT and its mobile subsidiary Smart Communications on Monday expressed their commitment to support the Philippine National Police (PNP) Text Bato hotline, which will give the public direct connection to PNP chief Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa.
The hotline works 24/7, allowing citizens to report law enforcement concerns and crime incidents.
Text Bato focuses on getting citizen-generated reports about law enforcement and police concerns such as leads on criminal activities, erring cops and traffic management issues, among others.
"We are committed to help PNP in making its services widely accessible to the public," said PLDT and Smart Public Affairs head, Ramon Isberto.
He added that PLDT would protect the privacy of its subscribers, and ensure confidentiality in every message transmitted to the hotline.
Subscribers need to type BATO (space) and their message, then send it to 7444-2286. Every text message will be charged P1 per SMS.
Senders will receive a confirmation from "PNPBATO". The PNP will then verify the messages/reports and determine the appropriate action.
Meanwhile, the company said it has assigned a dedicated a wireless device for Dela Rosa so he can personally access all the messages. He can also opt to reply directly to the sender.
Also, PLDT said it is backing up the hotline system by providing internet connectivity at the Text Bato Operations Center.
This will provide round-the-clock support for Dela Rosa in verifying the text reports and mobilizing speedy response, PLDT added. (PNA)
