Manila Mayor Alfredo S. Lim Thursday morning officiated the mass wedding of 186 couples at the Palma Hall of the City College of Manila.
Dubbed "Libreng Kasalan sa Daan-Daang Magkasintahan I Do. I Do Araw ng Pag-Ibig", the mass wedding was sponsored by Mayor Alfredo S. Lim and Pag-IBIG.
Some of the couples have been living together for so many years without the benefit of marriage because they do not have the money to spend for a formal wedding.
Mayor Lim also handed out gifts and financial assistance to the newly wed couples.
The mayor also directed Civil Registry chief Maria Josefa Encarnacion Ocampo to immediately process the couples' marriage contracts and have them delivered to their respective homes so that they no longer have to spend on transportation in going to City Hall.
After the Kasalang Bayan, Mayor Lim proceeded to the satellite offices in the six districts of the city and distributed Valentine and birthday gifts to senior citizens.
A total of 1,200 senior citizens or 200 from each of the six districts of the city, gathered in Tondo Sports Complex in District I, Patricia Sports Complex in District II, RASAC Covered Court in District III, Dapitan Sports Complex in District IV, Paraiso Covered Court beside Manila Zoo in District V and Paraiso Covered Court (back of Lourdes Hospital) in District VI to receive the gifts from the Mayor. - PNA
