MANILA — The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) has partnered with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) for STEEP (Skills Training for Employment/Entrepreneurship Program).
Under the program, TESDA will provide the skills training and help the graduates to put up their own businesses through DTI's "Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan" (TNK) program.
The two agencies signed a memorandum of agreement for the STEEP.
TESDA Director General Guiling Mamondiong said STEEP would provide students with skills development and entrepreneurship training.
He added that the partnership also aims to help students uplift their economic status.
Meanwhile, TESDA said the MOA urged the agency to come up with a list of graduates, and to provide them with entrepreneurship training.
The MOA will also require TESDA to assess and select beneficiaries from certified STEEP graduates "using an instrument that shall pre-qualify the graduates"; provide entrepreneurship training to selected beneficiaries, subject to the usual accounting and auditing rules and regulations; assist the selected beneficiaries in availing the micro financing facilities; provide the selected beneficiaries access to start-up capital for micro enterprises; facilitate business registration to beneficiaries who wish to engage in business/sole proprietorship; monitor and evaluate the progress of the selected beneficiaries; and also to provide recommendation to further enhance this project.
