Guv: NegOcc proud producer of excellent, diverse products

BACOLOD — Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. takes pride in the quality of Negrense products as the province hosts three events these week highlighting the ingenuity and creativity of local producers.
On Monday, Marañon along with Interior and Local Government Undersecretary Jesus Hinlo Jr., joined the Association of Negros Producers (ANP) led by president Christina Gaston and the Provincial Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (MSMED) Council chaired by Mary Ann Colmenares at the simultaneous opening of the First National Food Safety Fair, First Negros Island Region MSME Exhibit, and the 27th Bulawan Awards Trade Fair at the SMX Convention Center in this city.
Negros Occidental stands proud as a producer of excellent and diverse food and other products that have earned distinctions both in the country and abroad, Marañon said.
The governor added that the trade fairs would also serve as a venue to strengthen the province's food industry, one of the strongest programs of the province for economic growth.
The First National Food Safety Fair is being hosted by the ANP as a conference component to the 2nd National Conference on Food Safety on July 17 and 18.
Gaston said with 37 booths featuring good agricultural practices (GAP) of model farms and convergence of local manufacturers.
This year's conference, themed "Food Safety: A Shared Responsibility," promotes food safety and standard compliance in agriculture and food processing as well as raise awareness among consumers and provide technical updates to practitioners.
It is also looking into the success story of Thailand in terms of good practices as benchmark.
Meanwhile, the First NIR MSME Summit on July 19, held in collaboration with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), includes discussions on topics like overcoming mindset barriers to MSME development, mastery and mentoring toward competitiveness and resilience, accessing domestic and regional markets, overcoming money hurdles, and machines and business models toward productive and responsible MSMEs.
