MANILA — The Department of Education (DepEd) on Friday said it will conduct Brigada Eskwela in Marawi City as soon as the situation there is cleared.
Brigada Eskwela is the agency's nationwide program, encouraging collaborative efforts in cleaning up the schools and making the classrooms ready.
"Once the situation is cleared, we will immediately conduct damage assessment. The DepEd will also rehabilitate the schools destroyed by the conflict, will replace the materials lost," Education Secretary Leonor Briones said.
Briones earlier noted that one of the agency's priorities is to help the students and teachers displaced by Marawi conflict to bring back the normalcy in their lives.
To achieve this, the DepEd called for the surrounding communities' support, as well as for the support of the private sector and other government agencies.
"They can be volunteers. They can also donate in kind," DepEd said.
The agency reported that the DepEd Autonomous Regionin Muslim Mindanao, DepEd central office, through its Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Service, DepEd Region X, and private institutions have already mobilized eight Learner and Personnel Tracking teams from June 5-9.
Information dissemination in evacuation centers in nearby accommodating schools; facilitation of the conduct of Psychological First Aid Training, and mobilization of resources to augment the donations of Education cluster partners were also conducted. (PNA)
