DAR-assisted crop processing center opens in NegOcc village

BACOLOD — A Village Level Processing Center Enhancement Project (VLPCEP) assisted by the Department of Agrarian Reform opened at Barangay Caliling in Cauayan, Negros Occidental.
Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer II Lucrecia Taberna said in a report Thursday the project would benefit 191 members of the Bajay Patol Reform Agrarian Reform Cooperative (BPARC).
Implemented under the village-level farm-focused enterprise development program, the DAR released P300,000 for the construction of the crop processing center and conduct of training while BPARC provided a counterpart amount of P80,000 for construction and labor expenses.
Taberna said the project aimed to meet the agency's continuing thrust to strengthen the agri-enterprises of BPARC and its members.
It will help them sustain the productivity of their awarded lands by establishing farm-focused community enterprises with value-adding activities to the major and secondary crops of the farmers, she added.
"This allows the participation of other community members in the livelihood activities within the value chain and increase their household income," Taberna added.
Last week, DAR-Negros Occidental also provided P250,000 livelihood assistance to Camangcamang Integrated Farmers Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Association (CAINFARBA) in Isabela town for the implementation of its balut-making project.
The amount included P150,000 for the purchase of 500 heads of duck and incubator machines; P40,000 for capability building; and P60,000 for technical training.
CAINFARBA, which has 56 farmer-members, will manage and operate the project pursuant to the approved project proposal. (PNA)
