DTI-7 RD: Bohol's brand is alive, back in business amid threats

TAGBILARAN — The Trade and Industry regional director for Central Visayas has said nothing could alter Bohol's brand of tourism and no amount of terrorism threat could smear industry here.
Regional Director Asteria Caberte told the media during a press conference late Wednesday at the MetroCentre Hotel here the "Behold Bohol" that "no amount of terrorism or fear will compromise the brand."
She was here during the launch of the mentoring program dubbed "Kapatid Mentor Me Program (KMMP)" to help micro and small businesses through weekly coaching and mentoring by business owners and practitioners.
Bohol's tourism industry is its main economic driver, together with agribusiness and information and communications technology.
She said her group had a hard time booking their accommodations while they stay in Tagbilaran for the duration of the launch event for the mentoring program.
"It is difficult to get a room (here)," she said.
The "Behold Bohol" brand is the cornerstone of the tourism promotions and marketing efforts of the province.
The brand gives Bohol an image of being a peaceful and beautiful place, with ecologically responsible people, Caberte said.
Early this month, Tourism Sec. Wanda Tulfo-Teo visited the province and toured the various tourism areas to show the visitors safe Bohol is.
Her visit was seen as a way to help shore up the perceived decline in the bookings that happened right after the arrival of Abu Sayyaf rebels in Bohol.
Several countries including the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, France, Canada, China and South Korea among others issued travel warnings advising their citizens to avoid places such as Bohol and Cebu due to possible kidnapping threats. (PNA)
