Palace declares April 21 special non-working holiday in Calamba

CALAMBA, Laguna — Calamba is set to celebrate its 16th Cityhood Anniversary on Friday (April 21) which Malacañang Palace has declared a special non-working holiday throughout the city.
Through Palace Proclamation No. 189 signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, the non-working holiday declaration for the city is "to give full opportunity to the people of the city to participate and celebrate the activities on the 16th Cityhood Anniversary of Calamba."
In an interview with the PNA on Wednesday, Jeffrey Rodriguez, head of the City Mayor's Public Affairs Office, disclosed that Mayor Justin Marc Chipeco opted to hold the celebrations on Thursday (April 20) so that the residents and employees would enjoy the holiday together with their respective families.
Rodriguez said that the anniversary celebration will kick off with a Holy Mass to be officiated by the Reverend Father Leandro Bariring at 9:00 a.m. at the City Hall.
He said that Mayor Chipeco will also deliver the annual state of the city address (SOCA) and special messages from Laguna 2nd District Representative Joaquin M. Chipeco Jr. and Vice Mayor Roseller H. Rizal.
According to Rodriguez, Thursday's day-long festivities also open the Inter-Barangay Sports Festival which draws various sports leagues from the city's 54 barangays for the summer sporting events.
The event will also kick-off the "Buhayani" Festival that will culminate on June 19 in time for Calambeño and National Hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal's birth anniversary celebration. (PNA)
