Bulgarians 2.4% richer in 2016: official data

SOFIA — The total average income and expenditure per household member in Bulgaria in 2016 rose by 4.3 percent and 1.9 percent, respectively compared to 2015, official data showed on Tuesday.
The annual total income average per household member in 2016 was 5,167 Bulgarian lev BGN (USD2,808), while spending stood at 4,755 BGN, Bulgaria's National Statistical Institute (NSI) said.
As many as 54.3 percent of the income came from wages, 31.2 percent from social transfers, and 6.2 percent from self-employment, the NSI said.
Meanwhile, 30.8 percent of household expenditures went to food, 18 percent to housing, and 6.9 percent to transport. (1 US dollar = 1.836 Bulgarian lev). (PNA)
