13 rescued from burning passenger boat in Pangasinan

ALAMINOS — Thirteen persons on board a passenger motorboat bound for the Hundred Islands National Park from the wharf in Barangay Lucap, were rescued when the boat they were riding accidentally caught fire in mid-sea around 7:20 p.m. on April 16, the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) reported.
The incident happened when the boat MBCA Allan 7 operated by one Arnold Aglibot, while in the vicinity of Sitio Inansuana in Barangay Lucas, Alaminos City, caught fire due to its overheated engine that ignited a gallon of gasoline placed in plastic container beside the engine.
Of the 13 boat passengers, six suffered burns and injuries in different parts of their bodies. The passengers are still unidentified.
Initial investigation disclosed that while the motorboat was travelling at sea going to the Hundred Islands National Park, the son of the boatman whose name was not immediately known, put the gasoline container beside the engine and it caught fire when the engine overheated.
Another motorboat traveling nearby rescued all the passengers and brought them to the Lucao Wharf. The passengers were to go to the Hundred Islands for holiday.
An ambulance of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) brought the injured victims to the Alaminos Doctors Hospital (ADH).
Further lateral investigation and coordination are being made by the Alaminos City police with the Coast Guard and Tourism Office of Alaminos in order to identify the victims. (PNA)
