Taguig upgrades burial assistance program

MANILA — The city government of Taguig adjusted the burial assistance for its constituents from P2,000 to P20,000.
In a statement, the city government has been providing burial assistance in the amount of P2,000 to its indigent constituents since 2005 and to keep up with the inevitable rise in inflation, the city government last year adjusted the burial assistance to P20,000.
The program is available to families of indigent persons who have been Taguig residents for at least five years prior to their death.
The amount is primarily spent for expenses of the wake, including funeral services. The beneficiaries may use any excess for other burial-related costs.
The City Social Welfare Development Office (CSWDO) administers the burial assistance program. Myrna Gilbuena, a staff at the CSWDO, mentioned that aside from the cash assistance, the city government also offers to its poor residents non-monetary and logistical support such as free use of chairs and tables.
In line with this, World War II (WWII) veterans and their spouses, including those listed as widows of WWII veterans are also beneficiaries of the burial assistance of the city government where they are entitled to P20,000.00 burial assistance, from the previous P10,000.
Since its increase, thousands of poor TaguigeƱos have benefitted from the burial assistance.
Jenny Forte, a resident of Brgy. Upper Bicutan who recently lost her father, is one of the beneficiaries of this program.
"Malaking tulong po ito lalo na po sa pambayad namin sa punerarya katulad po noong namatay ang kapatid ko. Makatutulong po talaga ito lalo na sa mga pamilyang kapos sa pera gaya namin," Forte said. (PNA)
