President Aquino recognizes seven individuals in TOYM awards

President Benigno Aquino III conferred seven individuals as awardees in The Outstanding Young Men or TOYM because of their leadership excellence in their respected fields.
"I'll ask all of you to join me in the most ambitious effort to transform this country to one that we can truly be proud of," President Aquino said during the awarding ceremony speech held at Malacanang Palace. "Today, we have seen just how capable we are of rising above the expectations and the future that others had laid out for us; we have seen just how much has changed and can change in our country. But much is left to be done, and your government cannot do it alone," he added.
He also said that the reform is not just the obligation of your government, it is the call of our times in everything we do. If we really want to eliminate poverty, to weed out corruption, and to promote inclusive growth and lasting progress in the Philippines, we need you to be on the side to support our agenda.
This years awardees are Maria Antonio Arroyo (Biotechnology Advocacy), Dr. Raul Estura (Medical Science), Valenzuela Mayor Sherwin Gatchalian (Public Service), Calapan Mayor Paulino Leachon (Community Development), Gerard Salonga (Music), Edgar Sia II (Entrepreneurship), and Antonio Tiu (Agri- Entrepreneurship).
Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary, Jesse M. Robredo, together with Synergeia Foundation board of trustee, Prof. Solita Monsod, Chief Executive Officer, Milwilda M. Guevarra, and Chairman and Founder of Gawad Kalinga, Antonio Meloto nominated Sherwin Gatchalian in the said event.
"An outstanding public servant, an accountable government official, an advocate of quality education, a strong believer of the potentials of the youth and a staunch supporter of good governance, all of these sum up what Mayor Sherwin Gatchalian is. A testament to the JCI Creed. The very essence of an Outstanding Young Man," DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo said in his nomination statement.
Ed Mahilum reports about Mayor Sherwin Gatchalian says, after of studying in United states, Gatchalian return to the country as a young corporate executive and also as the "genesis of his commitment to public service through philanthropic via his own WIN Action Center Foundation."
