Davao City will be launching the "Pilipinas Natin" volunteerism promotion in the coming week during the celebration of the 26th Kadayawan Festival.
The event aims to uplift the spirit of volunteerism among young Davaoeños and encourages them to participate in nation-building.
The "Kadayawan Para sa Kabataan" which will happen in Tuesday will start from 8:00 am to 10:30 a.m., where some 2,000 children from ages 6 to 10 will be celebrating a grand birthday party at the University of Mindanao's Matina Gymnasium. Meanwhile, in the afternoon, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, the "Pilipinas Natin" project will be launched, headed by Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte at the Almendras Hall where some 5,000 youth leaders from Davao City schools and communities will gather to support and participate in the advocacy. In the evening, Mayor Duterte will also facilitate the "Kabayanihan sa Kadayawan", also part of the celebration.
Davao's new project also seeks to promote Davao's business sector to raise finances for the permanent relocation of the victims of the recent floods in the province.
The Kadayawan Festival is dedicated to the city's 10 indigenous communities and was first celebrated in September 1986, several months after the People Power Revolution. — ARA
