Mayor Garcia leads Manila Bay rehabilitation

The signing of the Manifesto of Commitment for the rehabilitation and revival of Manila Bay to make it fit for swimming, diving and fishing has been led by Mayor Joet S. Garcia of Balanga, Bataan.

This is not the first time that Mayor Garcia, being a noted environmentalist, and the city officials led the clean up, rehabilitation and preservation project along the mouth of Manila Bay.

Part of the project is the synchronized clean up at the Wetlands Park in Barangay Tortugas, Balanga and the Lourdes Creek in the City of San Fernando and Rizal, Nueva Ecija.

The cleaning of water channels, major and minor rivers, esteros, and major waterways that exit into the west portion of Manila Bay were some of the activities in the kick off of the Manila Bay rehabilitation.

"Coastal cleanup is not new in the province with various non-governmental organizations cooperating with government agencies in the campaign," Mayor Garcia clarified.

Members of the Army Reserve Command headed by Lt. Col. Enrico Yuzon (Reserve) who is also the present head of the Provincial Engineers' Office in Bataan, Knights of Columbus, Philippine National Police (PNP) under Sr. Supt. Arnold D. Gunnacao, the Philippine Army, barangay, provincial and city officials, government workers, teachers and students, fishermen and barangay women joined in the massive cleanup. — MITCH
