One of the youngest boxing champ, Eumir Felix Marcial, 15, won the Aiba Junior World Boxing Championships in Kazakhstan Saturday.
Marcial defeated Cengiz Onat of Turkey in the 52-kg division as he hit him with a good left punch in the second round. After seeing Onat distressed, Marcial knew he has a great chance of winning.
On his comeback in Zamboanga City on Monday, a motorcade pareded Onat across their town. City Mayor Celso Lobregat also expressed pride and thanked the young boxer for giving such honor to the city as well as to the country.
Unfortunately, the Philippine Sports Commission was not able to support him during the said competition. However, the chairman of the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines, Manny Pangilinan gave him an incentive worth P300,000.
Marcial was the first Filipino who won gold medal since 2001. — ARA
