TS "Juaning" trigger flashfloods in Siquijor

Prolonged heavy rains on Wednesday triggered flashloods and landslides in 20, mostly coastal barangays in Siquijor town, in Central Visayas region.

Typhoon "Juaning" brought in heavy rains causing damage to the municipality's infrastructures. One casualty was reported, an eight year-old pupil of Candanay Elementary School, according to Gilbert Briones, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council Deputized Coordinator.

Briones said that they recorded six houses submerged in water one meter deep in Barangay Luyang and and 12 houses in Barangay Banban.

He added that part of the roads from Sabang, Luyang, Pangi, Dumanjug-Calalinan and Cang-adieng-Caipilan were also flooded with riprap damaged but remains passable.

The disaster response group and rescue teams have been completely mobilized and still on red alert for any eventuality.

Meanwhile, the local government unit with the support of the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Department of Public Works and Highways have extended relief.

The MDRMC continue to monitor and assess the damages caused by the tropical storm. — ARA
