Aquino signs bill for ARMM elections postponement

The ARMM elections will definitely be postponed for the May 2013.

This was made possible when President Benigno Aquino III signed the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Election Postponement Bill Thursday.

As a result of the bill, the ARMM elections will then be scheduled along the national mid-term elections on May 2013.

"Malinaw ang ating hangarin sa ARMM upang marining ang tunay na kahilangan ng tao sa ARMM. Bubuwagin natin ang mga private armies ... hindi natin hahayaan na may makalusot na katiwalian," Aquino said.

The president also stressed that one of the reasons why the elections will have to be postponed is so that it could be credible and peaceful.

The signing event was done in Rizal Hall in Malacañang attended by Cotabato Representative Bai Sandra Sema and Senator Franklin Drilon. — ARA
