Earthquake rattles Japan anew

A 6.7 magnitude earthquake on Thursday distressed Northeast Japan just in the same place where an immense quake started the deadly tsunami on March 11.

Smaller aftershocks followed but no immediate reports of injuries or damage were available.

The quake struck about 6:51 a.m. some 30 miles off the shore of Iwate prefecture from 19.9 miles deep. This caused tremors to be felt across the northern half of the country, including Tokyo which is about 325 miles to the southwest, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.

Tsunami warning for the region has been raised after the quake, but was also canceled.

The U.S. Pacific Tsunami warning center said that it was not expecting a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami.

Japan's 9.0 magnitude earthquake and tsunami damaged the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant, and killed 24,000 people.
