The Philippines, Tuesday, joins the rest of the world in celebrating the World Blood Donor day themed, "More Blood, More Life."
Dr. Edgardo Gonzaga, Regional Director of the Department of Education Region 8 said that the celebration is important to the country because the Philippines has an insufficient blood supply.
Gonzaga also said that the national celebration will be concluded in Bohol.
The Center for Health Development, through its National Voluntary Blood Services Program, in partnership with the World Health Organization, is dedicated to support the service of the World Blood Donor Day.
The World Blood Donor Day is recognized as a yearly celebration that seeks to emphasize that voluntary blood donors are the basis of a safe blood supply since they are least likely to transmit potentially life-threatening infections like HIV and Hepatitis viruses to the recipients.
This presents a chance to give thanks to those who donate their blood without expecting anything in return.
The Department of Health, in addition, said that there should be an increase of awareness to persuade the public to donate blood and to go through medical examination to ensure the need for safe blood.
The DOH is convincing everybody to share their blood by going to the nearest Blood Collection Unit in any government hospital.
WBDD is celebrated all over the world to generate wider awareness of the need for safe blood for transfusion. — ARA
