The Department of Trade and Industry on Thursday guaranteed that consumers can still buy cheap but quality school supplies.
"Nagsasagawa kami ng weekly monitoring sa mga stalls na nagbebenta ng school supplies lalong lalo na sa Divisoria upang masiguro na protektado ang mga consumers sa presyo at kalidad ng mga paninda," said DTI Secretary Gregory L. Domingo.
He stressed that in cases of products like crayons, they coordinate with the Food and Drug Administration and the Department of Health to make sure that said products will be safe especially to the children, each crayon is to be labeled non-toxic prior to being released in the market.
DTI had an inspection on June 6 to check the quality of school supplies, They found out that supplies cost had increased a bit compared to the prices for the previous months. However, the department stressed that the prices are still at an affordable level.
Domingo said that "Tumaas ng kaunti ang presyo ngunit mura pa rin naman."
They also examined the quality of school supplies in accordance with Consumer Act of the Philippines or RA No. 7394.
The said law requires manufacturers and distributors to fulfill the minimum labeling requirements where products should include the trade name, kind or range of products, toxicity warning and directions for use. — ARA
