DPWH: 93 school buildings completed for school opening

The Department of Public Works and Highways in Bicol Region has finished 93 school buildings in time for the opening of school year 2011-12.
According to DPWH Bicol Regional Director Danilo Dequito, they still have to finish 38 more units from the 131 buildings allocated for the 2010 Regular School buildings Program for this Region.
"Of the 38 projects, 21 are ongoing but are now on its 80.68% completion as of May 31, 2011, and the construction of the remaining 17 projects will be started as soon as appropriations are received from the Department of Budget and Management ",he said.
However, DPWH Bicol Assistant Regional Director Jesus Salmo said that they are now on the completion phase of their regular maintenance work which involved the repair of potholes and repainting of pavement markings along national roads near school sites.
Other than the accomplishments made on the school building projects, the DPWH Bicol is also actively participated in the Department of Education's program "Oplan Balik Eskwela" by ensuring the safety of pedestrian and motorists
The DPWH in addition, had accomplished line canal de-clogging and cleaning operations to avoid event of floods and had removed risky billboards especially those near the school zones. — ARA
