13 volcanic quakes recorded in Mt. Taal

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology recorded 13 volcanic quakes in Taal volcano, Batangas during the last 24 hours.

Phivolcs said that two of these events were felt at Intensity II by residents of Calauit located at the eastern sector of the volcano.

According to Phivolcs, Alert Level 2 indicates that magma has been intruding towards the surface.

The public are advised to stay away from the main crater, Daang Kastila Trail, and Mt. Tabaro due to the sudden hazardous steam-driven explosions that may occur and high concentrations of toxic gases which may cause breathing problems in humans and animals.

In addition, Phivolcs reminds the public that the entire volcano island is still within the permanent danger zone.

The agency said that they will continue to monitor the activities of Mt. Taal, and report to the public any new development. — ARA
