FDA bans jellies and drinks from Taiwan

The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) and Department of Health (DOH) warned the public Monday not to buy Fruit jellies, candy jellies, soft drinks and including sports drinks from Taiwan.

This is due to the confirmation made by the Taiwan government regarding Di (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) contamination on their exported food products.

With this the FDA ordered the supermarkets to remove such items from their shelves to avoid harming the public. They also released the list of banned/contaminated products for public information.

According to FDA director Suzette Lazo, children are the ones more prone to Di (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) contamination which can cause testicular defects and fertility problems.

Meanwhile, as authorities are searching for the parties responsible in importing contaminated Taiwan products into the country, the DOH and FDA will continue their routine testing especially of foods coming from other countries.
