A deadly E.coli outbreak contaminating cucumbers in Germany left 14 people dead.
Oliver Grieve of the University Medical Centre Schleswig-Holstein said the outbreak is expected to worsen in the coming days.
The exact source of the epidemic is still being investigated, though initial speculations suggest that contaminated cucumbers originated from Spain.
Spanish officials have refused to accept the blame, saying it is still unclear when and where the vegetables got contaminated.
In Sweden, authorities accounted 36 suspected E.coli infections, all linked to travel in northern Germany.
