Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director Ernesto Diokno submitted his resignation to President Aquino III Monday afternoon.
His resignation came after the Department of Justice started investigating the alleged special treatment given to Former Batangas Governor Antonio Leviste, dragging Diokno's reputation.
According to the report, Diokno arrived at about 1 PM in Malacañang to give his resignation letter personally to the President Aquino. His resignation preceded the recommendation of the fact finding panel that Justice Secretary Leila De Lima is also about to submit to Aquino that same day.
However, Diokno already confessed that he is aware of the "sleeping out" status of the former governor but has not taken any step to stop it. His defend was that a lot of other high profile inmates can do that as well.
It can be remembered that Diokno has denied being involved in letting Leviste go in and out of the New Bilibid Prisons.
