Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration reported that the active low pressure area seen east of Mindanao has developed into a tropical depression.
On its 11 a.m. bulletin, the weather bureau said tropical depression Karen was estimated to be 700 kilometers east of Tandag, Surigao del Sur at 10 a.m.
Within its 300 km diameter, Karen is projected to bring 10 20 mm per hour (moderate heavy) amount of rainfall.
It also has maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center, but Pagasa said Karen is "still too far to affect any part of the country."
However, Pagasa said Karen is also likely to intensify in the next six to 12 hours.
By tomorrow morning, the tropical depression is expected to be 600 km east of Siargao Island. -
