Ifugao town conducts IEC on anti-smoking and anti-spitting of "moma" laws

The municipal government here created a task force to conduct massive and continuous information and education campaign regarding the implementation of its anti-smoking and anti-spitting of "moma" (chewed betel nut) ordinances to give the public leeway to comply with two local laws here before imposing its penal provisions.

Mayor Francis Tenenan said he issued an executive order creating the task force to make the public fully aware of these local laws and for them to have no reasons to question the impositions of penalties to the violators.

He said that this is also in line with the program of making their municipality clean and healthy for everybody and protect the people from being afflicted with diseases caused by irresponsible and unsanitary practices of other people.

The task force is tasked to conduct continuous IEC to all barangays, schools, including market days, in disseminating the provisions of the ordinances for three months.

The anti-smoking in public places and the anti-spitting of "moma" were enacted and began to be enforced in the municipality in 2010 but some seem to be unaware of it and continue to violate its provisions.

The task force is composed of vice mayor Victomar Bunnol as chairman with the members consisting of three councilors, the municipal health officer, municipal planning and development officer and the municipal administrative officer. The group had started its IEC activities this August. - PIA — ARA
