Phil Red Cross intensifies efforts to help flood-affected families

The Philippine Red Cross has intensified efforts to help victims of floods in Metro Manila and nearby provinces brought about by the southwest monsoon.

In a release, Red Cross staff and volunteers in Metro Manila and in other affected areas in Luzon are continuously bringing humanitarian assistance –with more than 900 staff and volunteers mobilized for rescue, relief and medical operations.

A total of 5,167 individuals were rescued by PRC Emergency Response Unit and Water Search and Rescue teams in Quezon City, Valenzuela, Rizal, Manila, Navotas, Caloocan and Cavite.

Likewise, 24-hour standby teams were maintained by different Red Cross Chapters for monitoring and deployment.

Relief plan has been developed targeting priority areas to support the numbers of affected population either displaced or stranded in their homes due to severe flooding caused by the continuous heavy rains.

According to PRC, a total of 5,763 families have already received relief packs, while 1,127 received non-food items in Valenzuela, Rizal, Navotas, Malabon, Paranaque, Zambales and Olongapo. Likewise, hot meals were provided to 21, 890 persons.

PRC is also considering the social well-being of those affected individuals. Welfare services such as referral, guidance and counselling, psychosocial support and tracing were also made available, serving more than 2,060 persons.

The PRC Blood services are also on standby to ensure that blood requirements are met anytime the need arises.
