President Benigno Aquino III visited five evacuation centers around Metro Manila yesterday and led the distribution of relief goods to families displaced by the heavy flood caused by southwest monsoon rains.
The President visited Nangka Elementary School in Marikina City; Bagong Silangan covered court in Quezon City; Pag-asa Elementary School in Barangay 176, Bagong Silang, Caloocan City; General T. de Leon High School in Valenzuela City; and Oreta Sports Complex, Brgy. Poblacion, Malabon City.
In his speech, he assured evacuees that the government is doing its best to respond to the needs of those affected by the disaster and solve flooding in Metro Manila.
"Huwag kayong masyadong mag-alala. Ginagawa namin ang lahat, kasama ang DPWH, upang makahanap ng solusyon sa problema ng pagbaha sa pamamagitan ng flood control project (Do not worry too much, for we are finding ways to help resolve the problem of flooding)," the President said. "The Department of Public Works and Highways has already been tasked to find a permanent solution to the perennial problem of flooding through the flood control project)."
Though he admits there is no instant solution to the problem, President Aquino assured that proposals on improved drainage system are already under way.
The President also asked for the cooperation of the evacuees to reduce flooding in the future. -
