The Department of Social Welfare and Development has prepositioned Php 2.10-million standby funds and Php 4.72 million worth of relief supplies ready to augment resources of local government units affected by tropical storm Gener.
The DSWD in Region II where typhoon Signal No. 2 was hoisted has prepositioned food and relief items to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Monitoring Council in Cagayan Valley through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office. These consist of 750 family food packs and 500 packs of relief clothing.
As of July 30, some 109 families with 523 persons from Simpatuyo, Sta. Teresita, in Cagayan were affected by knee-deep floods. Sixty-five evacuation centers were set-up around Region II.
Likewise, as of July 30, some 2,638 families composed of 13,170 persons were affected coming from 11 barangays in four municipalities of Bulacan in Region III and in Occidental Mindoro in Region IV-B. Three evacuation centers were set-up in Bulacan providing temporary shelter to 82 families or 340 persons. In Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro, 50 families or 250 persons were given relief assistance.
In the National Capital Region, the DSWD has sent augmentation assistance to the residence of Baseco Compound. The department is now assisting in the relocation of families along the seawall in Roxas Boulevard, Manila.
The Social Welfare and Development teams of all DSWD Regional Offices along the path of tropical storm Gener are on 24-hour duty and continue to coordinate with concerned local government units to assess the extent of impact of the disaster as well as for additional assistance to the storm victims. -
