South Leyte mall hones earthquake and fire prevention skills

The leading superstore in the city of Maasin has participated in the National Disaster Consciousness Month nationwide celebration and successfully conducted their earthquake and fire prevention drills yesterday.

Office of the Civil Defense provincial officer Marichu Tan noted that the said superstore has already organized their own preparedness teams such as medical, rescue, communication, evacuation from among their workforce during the conduct of earthquake and fire drills in the 5,000-m area of Metro Hiper-Gaisano.

The said disaster preparedness drills activities included safety orientation by the Bureau of Fire Prevention –Maasin City officials, she reported.

Tan said, "the business institution is also religiously conducting their own earthquake and fire drills every quarter as these were also conducted in their series of Gaisano Malls according to Victor Garcia, the Metro Hiper Gaisano supervisor."

She noted that this is the third earthquake and fire drills facilitated by the superstore since they opened for business in the city. The next scheduled prevention drills will be on November, 2012, she added.

She also noted that the superstore has its own nurse, who will administer first-aid to the customers needing immediate medical assistance right at the premises.
