The Philippine is ready to face "Chedeng", this is the firm statement of the Philippine Government as it faces the threat of an existing tropical storm.
According Graciano Yumul, Undersecretary of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), they are closely monitoring the Western Seaboard of the country which is more likely to experience heavy rains due to "Chedeng".
Yumul added that they are not disregarding the possibility that "Chedeng", based on its activity, can be as strong as typhoon "Juan" of last year and "Ondoy" of 2009.
Meanwhile, Vice Admiral Ramon Liwanag, Commandant of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said that they are already coordinating with the district commanders assigned on different Local Government Units all over the country.
Liwanag added that they strictly recommend boats and ships not to sail due to strong winds and heavy rains.
Moreover, the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) is tasked at making sure the Office of Civil Defense, the 3rd and the 8th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army is equipped and ready in case rescue operations are needed on flood prone areas. — ARA
