UN send $200 M aid for North Korea famine

The UN is aiming to raise funds amounting to $200 million to aid North Korea affected by famine.
This was according to UN spokesman Martin Nesirsky.

Due to years of isolation over its nuclear programme, mismanagement and natural disasters, North Korea, a reclusive communist state, is now suffering from a persistent shortage of food and energy resources.

Relying on its international handouts since 1995, the country help fed its over 20 million people.

Currently, Nesirsky confirmed that around 16 million people are experiencing hunger, malnutrition and economic losses.

A murderous famine gripped North Korea in mid-1990s after unprecedented floods.

According to a release by the North Korean Food Damage Rehabilitation Committee, the toll for affected individuals in 1999 reached 220,000; and about two to three million people died only from 1995 to 1998.
