Filipino boxer Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao and now former World Welterweight Champion appealed to his supporters not to be saddened of his loss against Timothy Bradley Jr. in Las Vegas, Saturday (Sunday, Philippine Time).
The "Pambansang Kamao" lost his World Boxing Organization welterweight title after decisions favored Bradley with scores of 113-115, 115-113 and 115-113.
Pacman, believing 100% that he won the fight, asked his supporters not to be discouraged, as he himself stressed that he respects what the final decision was. "There's always next time," he added.
"We have to respect my opponent also. Give credit to him. The fans, in your heart you know who won the fight, but it's okay," Pacquiao explained.
On the other hand, some responses on social networking sites pertaining to Pacquiao's loss are fast and cruel, with many boxing fans uttering hatred over the pronouncement and saying they will stop watch boxing because of this. The tag #RIPBoxing became a worldwide trending topic as fans on Twitter criticized the result.
American singer, Katy Perry tweeted, "#RIPBoxing #MannyPacquiaoIsStillTheWorldsBestBoxer The whole world is disappointed just look at the TT. But we all know who really won!"
Even boxing analysts tweeted about it, "I had Manny winning 115-113," said Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix.
ESPN's Dan Rafael meanwhile tweeted, "Manny showing class even though 99 percent on the people think he cleary won."
Bradley however said he is open for a re-match if Manny would want one. — ARA
