The Department of Education is all set to welcome more than 21 million students as classes in public schools starts their academic year 2012-2013 Monday.
Education Secretary Armin Luistro said he has done a few rounds the past two weeks; and despite many continuing challenges, he has seen that our principals and teachers have gone out of their way to make this school year one of the most prepared openings for DepEd.
According to Luistro, there are more than 45,000 public kindergartens, elementary and high schools well arranged for the class opening after DepEd undertook two primary programs the National Schools Maintenance Week or Brigada Eskwela Week, and the multi-sectoral, multi-agency Oplan Balik Eskwela campaign last month.
He said that the Philippine National Police guaranteed the citizens that it has geared up all the required protective measures to make sure the smooth and sound opening of classes.
Luistro said that the private sector as well as small companies, helped in the Brigada Eskwela week last May 21 to May 26 and even after.
He said, "I wish to thank all of them including our partners in Brigada Eskwela for their patience, generosity and commitment to education."
The Education Secretary added that they are prepared to launch the improved curriculum in the K (Kindergarten) +12 basic education curriculum program, particularly the new and better curriculum for Grade 1 and Grade 7, previously the first year high school level. — ARA
