"Shabu kitchen" found in Malabon

About Php 240 million worth of "shabu" has been reported and seized by police Monday at an apartment rented by a Chinese citizen in Malabon City.

This "kitchen-type" drug laboratory was the second time this month discovered in the city.
According to Senior Supt. Ferdinand Ampil officer in charge of the Malabon city police Tuesday, charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act were being prepared against the woman, Abby Sy, who remained at large.

Some 35 kilos of methamphetamine hydrochloride, also known as "shabu" were found by the authorities at an apartment unit on Araneta Avenue in Barangay Potrero in a raid conducted at around 4pm on Monday.

Sy had been renting the unit since January according to the investigation.

Investigations were studying whether charges could also be filed against Vincent Go, who is the owner of the residential building, said a ranking Northern police district official who refused to be named.

Anti-narcotics agents and the local police May 4 also dismantled kitchen type shabu laboratory on Governor Pascual Avenue also in Malabon.

More or less Php 5 million worth of equipment and chemicals used to make the drug were recovered in the illegal facility which was also housed in a two storey apartment, said Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

PDEA cited the first lab capable of producing five to ten kilos of shabu worth as much as Php 5 million in one production cycle for only two to three days.

Not one has been arrested during the operation. Residents told the investigators that the door of the apartment was always closed and that the tenants keep for themselves. -GIAN — ARA
