CJ ready to accept judgment

The Senate impeachment court is anticipated to pass on its judgment on Chief Justice Renato Corona by Tuesday, since the final arguments are ready to be given today by the prosecution and defense panel.

Senate Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III said on Sunday that he would advise his contemporaries that they will ready the judgment tomorrow after reviewing the last arguments of both panels.

Sotto said in an interview that there might be a compelling statement or reason from either side. Some of them who have not fully made up their minds, unless with a good picture of the proceedings, cannot immediately decide.

He said, "So to be fair to everyone, the day after would be the best option."

Supreme Court spokesman Midas Marquez said the Corona is prepared to accept the decision of the impeachment court.

One of the senator-judges, Antonio Trillanes IV said, "If you are still undecided at this point, still awaiting the closing arguments coming from the lawyers who are experts in arguing their case, then you cannot really decide for yourself for your life."

Trillanes believed that currently, even ahead of the final arguments are made, several of the senator-judges have already determined on their votes.

Conversely, Sotto said that he would suggest to his colleagues on their assembly today to have the vote on the judgment for tomorrow.

Marquez said that the Corona family and supporters are still positive of the conclusion of the impeachment trial.

According to him, CJ is still staying in the hospital on Sunday getting better from the hypoglycemic incident he experienced during the trial last Tuesday. — ARA
