Iceland's Grímsvötn erupts

Reports have been released that a no fly zone is in effect within the 193-kilometer (120-mile) radius of Grímsvötn volcano in Iceland due to its eruption on Saturday, 1925 UCT.

The eruption was accompanied by small earthquakes.

A dark cloud of smoke was seen rising from the Vatnajokull glacier, under which the Grímsvötn volcano is located. Scientists have also been flying over to evaluate the situation.

The volcano has erupted for a week on December 28, 1998 but no glacial bursts were noted. Another eruption took place in November 2004 where volcanic ash reached mainland Europe and caused short-term disruption of airline traffic.

Another volcano, Eyjafjallajokull, attracted worldwide attention after it affected airline traffic in Europe also due to the volcanic ash it has released.
