The Department of Labor and Employment through the National Wages and Productivity Commission in cooperation with the Department of Trade and Industry and the local government units in Metro Manila, will hold the first Diskwento Caravan for this year on May 10.
Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said the Diskwento Caravan is part of government's non-wage benefits program which provides workers and their families access to basic commodities and services at discounted/affordable prices, thereby augmenting their income and providing them financial relief.
"Seven more caravans will be conducted around the National Capital region after the May 10 schedule," Baldoz added.
Baldoz has instructed NWPC Executive Director Ciriaco Lagunzad III to enlist more private sector manufacturers and companies to participate in the Diskwento Caravan to ensure that more workers and their families will have access to the discounted basic goods and commodities.
Items to be sold in this year's Diskwento Caravan are canned goods, noodles, rice, juice, coffee, processed meats, condiments, milk, medicine, school uniform, bags, shoes, bath and detergent soaps, basic apparel, and others.
Baldoz urged non-minimum wage earners and their families to watch out for and avail of low priced goods at the Diskwento Caravan in their areas.
The schedule of the caravan is as follows: Pasay City, May 10; Quezon City, May 11; Pateros, May 16; Taguig City, June 1; Navotas City, June 25; Makati City, July 12; Mandaluyong City, July 16; and Makati City, November 9. -
