In observance of Christendom's commemoration of Jesus Christ's passion and suffering during the Lenten Season, the city government of Makati will open to two-way traffic the stretch of J.P. Rizal Street from Reposo St. to Makati Avenue starting March 26 to April 8, 2012.
Makati Department of Public Safety Director Hermenegildo San Miguel said that the opening of J.P. Rizal to two-way traffic is due to the closure of inner streets to give way to the installation of "kubols" or "kalbaryos" by devotees on several streets of Barangay Poblacion for the Holy Week. The devotees spend time in the "Kubol" to pray and meditate.
Around 20 of such "Kubols" will be assembled by associations and groups, with statues of saints of prominent families being displayed. A procession will be held on Good Friday and Easter Sunday when the Lenten Season formally ends.
Motorists are advised to strictly follow the rerouting scheme. Public Safety or MAPSA traffic enforcers will be deployed at affected streets to guide the motorists. -
