The local government here through the office of public safety and security has raised some Php 2.4 million in fines from traffic violations last year.
OPSS Head Nilo Gomez said the collected amount is the fruit of their relentless operations against violators of traffic rules and regulations that are strictly being implemented in the town.
Said amount was raised from penalties paid by delinquent drivers from January to November 2011 while the collection for December 2011 is still being finalized by the municipal treauser's office.
"Our operation is 24 hours. It contributed a lot to the increase in the collection from penalties imposed to people disregarding the ordinance on traffic we are implementing in our municipality," Gomez said.
OPSS Secretary Myra Barros corroborated this, adding that most of the apprehended violators were drivers of colorum passenger jeeps, FX and out of line passenger vehicles including motorcycle driving without helmet and garbage trucks passing the town without the necessary permit from the local government.
To avoid hassles aside from paying fines, Gomez urged motorists to just follow the traffic ordinance being implemented in the municipality. -
