IMF Director arrested for attempted rape

The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Dominique Strauss-Kahn was arrested by the New York Police Saturday.

Kahn was arrested for allegedly attempting to rape a chamber maid of Sofitel Hotel in Manhattan.

New York Police Spokesperson Paul Browne said that the 32-year old hotel staff was about to clean the room of Kahn, when the suspect forcibly urged her to perform sexual intercourse with him. With that, she informed her co-hotel personnels and they called for the police.

By the time the law enforcers arrive at the hotel, Kahn was already at the John F. Kennedy International Airport. However, his fast escape did not hinder the authorities from capturing him. Khan was arrested just before he was able to board the plane.

Meanwhile, the victim was turned-over to the local hospital for her to be given medical aid. She acquired a couple of minor injuries from the incident.

The spokeswoman of IMF stated that the agency has no final statement yet regarding the issue. He said they will wait for the investigation results before disclosing any stand regarding the incident.

Kahn was a former economic professor and a French Industry Minister back in 1990s. He became the managing director of International Monetary Fund November of 2007. — ARA
