The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) announced Saturday that there are about 281 colleges and universities that will increase their tuition fees as soon as the petition gets approved.
Six hundred private higher-education institutions applied for the increase in tuition fees but up to now only 281 colleges and universities were approved, said CHED Executive Director Julito Vitriolo.
Among these colleges and universities are Ateneo de Manila University and Graduate School of Business, OB Montessori, University of the East (UE) College of Medicine Assumption College, and Miriam College which will be increasing their fees by 5%.
On the other hand, University of Santo Tomas will increase tuition fees by only 3.75 percent, while University of the East Manila will increase by 4.35%. De La Salle University will raise by 3.55% and St. Lukes College of Medicine, which tops the list will increase by 12%.
The approved 281 educational institutions represent only 15% of the 1,792 total number of colleges and universities in the country. — ARA
