The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) recorded more than 80 ground quakes in Mt. Bulusan in Sorsogon within only 31 hours.
The seismic network monitoring Mt. Bulusan has detected four volcanic earthquakes from 5AM of May 15 to 5AM of May 16. Recorded ground shakening became more frequent by 6AM and reached up to 80 volcanic earthquakes by 12NN.
According to PHIVOLCS, Mt. Bulusan's latest activity, before today's was last Friday, May 13, where it only manifested a few and shallow ground rumbles.
However, the alert level implemented by PHIVOLCS still remains at Level. During Alert Level 1, only sudden steam and ash explosions are expected. The public is prohibited to enter the 4KM Permanent Danger Zone though.
Residents near the valleys and river channels are advised to be alert against sediment-laden stream flows and lahar brought about by the heavy and prolonged rainfall.
