San Sebastian College- Recoletos will try to to close out its Final Four campaign on a winning note as they face University Of Cebu, Thursday, in the Philippine Collegiate Champions League at The Arena in San Juan.
After beating out Ateneo and San Beda, the Stags are hunting for a three-game sweep of the Final Four when they meet another collegiate champion in the Webmasters at 4 p.m.
Although San Sebastian lost last October to San Beda for the NCAA Championship, and losing Ronald Pascual for the remainder of the tourney due to an ACL injury, the Topex Robinson-led Stags have been consistently good and eager to win in the past games.
They reached the semis by possessing a hard-fought wins over Adamson and Letran in the Sweet 16 then scored an 87-72 payback victory over rival San Beda on Monday that was flawed by a bench-clearing incident.
But the biggest break came on Tuesday, when reigning NCAA Most Valuable Player Calvin Abueva led a magnificent comeback in the last 6 minutes to make a stunning 70-69 victory over the Ateneo Blue Eagles, The UAAP and PCCL Champions and possibly the best team in the competition.
After making it to the finals for just the second time, the Stags have also clinched a twice-to-beat advantage.
Other matchups today are FEU- Nicanor Reyes Educational Foundation and CSB- La Salle Greenhills at 2 p.m. in a benefit game for the "Kapit Bisig Para sa Ilog Pasig" a project of the ABS-CBN Foundation.
Both teams were finalists of the UAAP and NCAA junior division. — BERTO
