As the city of Marikina officially launched on Monday, November 28 its 15th Cityhood Anniversary, Mayor Del De Guzman stressed that the city government will embark on people-government partnerships.
Mayor De Guzman said the city government will tap all sectors of community to be one with the celebration.
"We would like to make this celebration a meaningful and harmonious one, so we enjoin all sectors of our society particularly the private sectors in order to build with them better people-government partnerships," said De Guzman.
He added that in unity, every challenge can be surpassed and best programs can be delivered to the public.
In a release by the City Public Information Office, various activities have been lined up before the grand anniversary celebration slated on December 8 wherein a thanksgiving Mass will be celebrated at the Our Lady of the Abandoned Church.
Likewise, Recognition Night for the city's model community, outstanding barangay council, best transport group, outstanding artists, top 10 business groups, and outstanding youth organizations will be held at Teatro Marikina on the same date.
Other activities include: "Himig Handog Para sa Lungsod" concert on December 2 at 7:00 p.m. to be held at the Plaza de los Alcaldes and mass blood donation on December 3 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Marikina Sports Park building. The blood donation aims to collect 2,011 units of blood.
And on December 7, the "Barako sa Disaster" duathlon will be held at the Marikina River Park, as well as "Bidyo Against Drugs" short film festival; an extemporaneous speech contest will be held at the Teatro Marikina.
Marikina was converted into a highly urbanized city on December 8, 1996 by virtue of Republic Act 8223. -
