The Philippine National Police Biliran Provincial Office through Police Senior Superintendent Alfredo Sabornido, Provincial Director, has ordered each of the municipal police office in the eight municipalities of Biliran province to set up Police Assistance Center at the cemetery compound during the observance of All Saints and All Souls Days when people flock to the place to visit and offer flowers and prayers to their dear departed.
In an interview with the Philippine Information Agency, Biliran Provincial Information Center, PSSupt. Sabornido said that even if he has yet to attend a meeting at the PNP regional office on Thursday, October 27 about security preparations for November 1 and 2, he had already initial talks with the chiefs of police in the eight municipalities of the province regarding the security plans in observance of the occasion.
He warned the public through the police officers in the municipality that bladed weapons and other deadly weapons are not allowed inside and within the premises of the cemetery.
"Liquor and sound systems are likewise not allowed inside the cemetery. We want to give due respect to our people who seek moments of silence as they offer prayers for the dead", he said.
"Drinking liquor inside the cemetery is strictly prohibited", he added.
PSSupt. Sabornido informed that enough policemen will be stationed at the Police Assistance Center in each of the municipal cemetery to entertain requests for assistance from people and complaints related to peace and order.
In Naval, the capital town of Biliran province, SPO1 Dennis Arpon in an interview said, that Naval Municipal Police Office will set up a tent at the Catholic cemetery of the place that will house the police assistance center, a day before the observance of All Saints Day.
He added that aside from providing security to people who visit their departed loved ones in the cemetery, part of their task is o manage the flow of traffic in the area.
For his part, PSSupt. Sabornido informed that as of now, Biliran province is generally peaceful. -
